Melbourne Docklands is a unique waterfront development in the heart of Melbourne, Australia comprising around 200 hectares (400 acres) of land and water and seven kilometres (4.3 miles) of waterfront.
VicUrban, as the State Government’s sustainable urban development agency, is partnering with the private sector to develop Melbourne Docklands as a world-class mixed-use precinct with a dynamic blend of residential, commercial, retail and leisure activities.
Docklands will offer quality experiences for residents, workers, investors, shoppers and visitors from Melbourne, regional Victoria, interstate and overseas.
The waterfront will thrive by integrating a wide range of land and water-based activities, dining, retail, events and other attractions, seven days a week, to shape Docklands into a vibrant boating destination.
Docklands will be celebrated for its integration of the water, urban art, entertainment, technology, services, sports, heritage and culture with wide promenades and public open spaces. While Victoria Harbour is recognized as Melbourne’s ‘blue park’ – a stunning and well-used water place hosting a variety of uses.
The project will be excellent in design with high quality, leading-edge design and public amenity in both the physical (buildings, public spaces, water and land) and virtual (activities, events and technology) form.
Docklands will also be environmentally responsible by being recognised as a leader in well-designed, environmentally responsible development and operations.
By 2020, Melbourne Docklands is expected to become home to 17,000 people, a workplace to 40,000 and a destination for 55,000 visitors per day.
